I’ve just returned home from a very significant trip in my life of travels. Fourteen years ago I began exploring the world beyond the borders of my own country, always seeking to experience new places and cultures. This trip marks a major milestone – I’ve now visited all seven continents! I’m super excited to have finally set foot on every major landmass in the world.
To celebrate (and, perhaps more importantly, to reflect), I wanted to post a photo from each continent… but I couldn’t bring myself to choose just one. Here’s a tribute to seven continents of travel.
Antarctica
Antarctica, 2002 – An other-worldly experience.
Africa
Tanzania, 2009 – Climbing KilimanjaroCelebrating on the Roof of Africa
South America
Argentina, 2011 – Extracting a bone from hard rock as a volunteer at a dinosaur dig site
Europe
Italy, 2010 – Volunteering at an organic farm in the AlpsItaly, 2010 – I get invited to my first Italian wedding and learn how to really celebrateEngland, 2012 – Walking across the country from coast to coast with my brotherMalta, 2014 – Learning the art of Falconry at the Malta Falconry Centre
Asia
North Korea, 2012 – Attempting to decipher reality from fiction in the world’s most secretive stateBangladesh, 2013 – Making new friends in the slums of DhakaNepal, 2015 – Trekking through the Himalayas with a great friend
North America
Canada, 2008 – Exploring the Rockies with my faithful hiking partner, Scamp.Canada, 2013 – Cycling the Icefield Parkway with good friends.Alaska & Yukon, 2014 – In search of gold on the Chilkoot Trail
Coming home from this trip, I feel a sense of completion. If something catastrophic happened tomorrow and I couldn’t ever travel again, I’d be happy with the places I’ve visited and the great experiences I’ve had. Something tells me though, there are many more adventures in store for me. In a way, I’ve just scratched the surface of this big wonderful world.
From now on you are a member of restricted club of CHOSEN. I’d wish to be its member, may be sometimes… Thanks for sharing some really great moments. Importantly, majority of them aren’t selfies, but very interesting scenes from live of local communities or adventures with friends. The most amazing for me is your marvelous knee bend moment with North Korean children.
Thanks Vlad! Looking through my old photos from these trips brought back lots of great memories. I remember, at the time, I was most proud of the photos of beautiful landscapes or stunning sunsets that I’d captured. The pictures that mean the most to me now are exactly the kind that you pointed out – sharing special moments with locals and friends. That photo from North Korea is one of my favourites too 🙂
This is beyond fantastic. thank you for the ones with Fred and me. Home from my 3 month SW USA trip and 3 weeks in Cuba the end of Feb. My g mail was blocked. just now cleaning it out. Come to visit in Aug. Off to Europe in May starting in Moscow with Kathy. Then back on the Iron Will be solo after the first three weeks when Kathy returns to work. Will send some photos from my phone. What is the site you use to do this wonderful journal.
